Examine Yourselves, Whether Ye Be in the Faith…

INTRODUCTION

By Mark J. Ward

The basis for this study is a text found in 2 Corinthians 13:5 that reads, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?"

Looking at the Word of God and examining our lives accordingly, is like a person who looks into a full-length mirror. IF we look closely, we can see our flaws. We might turn and walk away from the mirror and do nothing about the flaws (whether its combing our "wild hair sticking up", or correcting sin in our lives). We suffer the consequences when we don’t make the proper adjustments when we see ourselves in the mirror and don’t make the needed changes!

It will be the intent of this column to look at various religious matters that affect us today…that’s right, "live issues"! Let’s "examine ourselves" and see if we are "in the faith"! May God richly bless our studies.

We need to truly "prove" ourselves and make SURE that we are doing things in accordance with the will of God. We should continually compare our beliefs, teachings and practices with the Word of God, trying always to abide in the doctrine (or teaching) of Christ (2 John 9)! As always, if you disagree, please feel free to write me at markjward@yahoo.com. I will be more than happy to consider thoughts of those who disagree for potential publishing (and review) in future issues of The Religious INSTRUCTOR. Thanks.  - mjw
